Life Under Lockdown

Life under Lockdown explores how photographers, Adam Isfendiyar and Eithne Nightingale, took portraits of people in East London in their windows, doorways, on their balconies or in the near vicinity of their homes during the spring and summer of 2020. But there were differences. Whereas Eithne took portraits of her neighbours in her two adjoining streets in Hackney, something she had done on two previous occasions, Adam cycled across Hackney and Tower Hamlets visiting people who had responded to his request on social media. Eithne also asked people to pose with objects that sustained them during lockdown – board games, plants, hair clippers, yoga mats, musical instruments and oximeters.
